Program Description

The Peer Navigation Program is tailored for individuals with lived experience who want to make a difference by guiding and supporting others as they navigate the complexities of the healthcare system. This program recognizes the unique value of personal experiences in fostering trust, understanding, and meaningful connections. Using micro-credentials, participants will gain the skills to effectively empower peers facing similar challenges, using their insights to address barriers, provide guidance, and create a sense of shared understanding in challenging healthcare journeys.

This course emphasizes culturally informed strategies and effective communication techniques to ensure support is compassionate, respectful, and impactful. Participants will learn how to bridge gaps in healthcare access, advocate for their peers, and contribute to improved outcomes in their communities. By completing the Peer Navigation Program, individuals will be equipped to turn their lived experience into a powerful tool for change, fostering inclusivity and equity within the healthcare system.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to: 1.Use lived experiences to build trust and rapport with peers. 2.Guide individuals through complex healthcare systems and resources. 3.Identify and address barriers to healthcare access for marginalized populations. 4.Implement culturally sensitive and inclusive approaches to care. 5.Foster self-advocacy and resilience in peers. 6.Work collaboratively with healthcare providers to enhance patient outcomes. This program provides a unique opportunity to transform personal experiences into professional skills, empowering participants to make a meaningful impact in the healthcare journey of others.

Duration/Time Commitment

3 hrs/day over 3 days online

Fully Online - Live Instructor Led sessions

In addition to class time, one (1) hour of self study time per course day

Requirements for Enrolment

This program is ideal for individuals with lived experience who wish to:
• Support peers in navigating healthcare systems.
• Address barriers and improve healthcare access for others.
• Build meaningful relationships and foster positive outcomes within their communities.

This program is offered in English. It is your responsibility to ensure you meet the language requirements. You may be asked to demonstrate language proficiency.
